MISUNDERSTANDING OF DEUTERONOMY CHAPTER 22:
A writer who writes under the pseudonym of “Christianlady” gave a very good explanation of Deuteronomy 22:28-29, by taking it in context and then explaining it. In context of Deuteronomy 22:25-29, “But if the man find the damsel that is betrothed in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her; then the man only that lay with her shall die: 26 but unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbor, and slayeth him, even so is this matter; 27 for he found her in the field, the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her. 28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, that is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29 then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he hath humbled her; he may not put her away all his days.” (American Standard Version; ASV).
Many none Christians often use Deuteronomy 22:28-29, “If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, that is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29 then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he hath humbled her; he may not put her away all his days.” (ASV), in a deceitful attempt to mislead and say things such as, <<<” Modern Bible Is A Rapists Hand Book To Pleasure, Revealed why.”>>>
This writer, writer who writes under the pseudonym of “Christianlady” showed their deceitfulness as follows:
<<<” I don't normally answer these kind but I'd like for those who read this to think about some things please? Thank you.
The father does not have to give the daughter to the rapist . This is a prevention method, it is not a command. Think about it. Most guys who would rape a girl would not want to marry her. Think about it please.
Let's say you are a guy, a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob... one of the descendants in the twelve tribes of Israel... let's say the tribe of Dan. Ok, God gave commands of society and tradition to Moses, and you, a guy in this time period of this clan, knows them. Ok, now please keep in mind that women and girls DID NOT TEND TO WANDER ALONE IN THE COUNTRY. I mean, even nowadays, I dont' even wander alone in the country. Girls and women at this time period spent their time together, with their mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, girl friends, learning how to be good wives and mothers and sew and cook and all that fun stuff. They were too busy to be wandering alone anywhere and weren't in a position where a guy could rape her.
Ok, back to you being a guy at that time... you see a very strange event, a girl is alone and in a place where she could be raped. Ok, most guys are not rapists UNLESS they are under drugs, under alcohol, or are perverts or under hate. You, hopefully, have enough fear of God in you that if you see a girl in a position where she could be raped, you would talk with her and lead her safely to a place where she would no longer be in any danger, right?
But let's say you're a bad guy... let's say you see a girl in a position where she could be raped and you begin to think about it and forget God... now here comes this verse that you suddenly remember... it is possible for you to have to marry her... any guys will stop right there even if they don't fear God, if they realize that they might have to provide for the girl's clothing, food, shelter, all she wants and needs, plus children expenses... the bad guy with half a brain would realize... hmmm I don't want to be burdened financially with her for the rest of my life. I mean, think about it. Again, most rapists do not want to marry the girl they want to rape. They just want to use her or are angry and are looking for revenge.
now let's look at the verse again...
Deuteronomy 22
"25But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die.
26But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:
27For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.
28If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
29Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. "
Now both of these, in my opinion, put a damper on rape. First, most guys don't want to die. Second, most guys do not want to have such a responsibility as a result of rape. Most guys who get married want to have a good relationship from the beginning with the woman they marry and her family. Rape is not the way to get that. So this is prevention. Again, the father does not have to do this.
Concerning me... my father, i***uy raped me, would much rather put the rapist to death. That is how my father is No way would he let me marry a rapist, even if I wanted to my Dad would think I was crazy and would make the rapist's life miserable.... Many fathers very much love their daughters. They instruct their daughters how to take care of themselves so they are not in a dangerous position, plus they are very much unwilling to put their daughter in any disagreeable position.
When one reads the laws and traditions God gave the Israelites through Moses, one needs to realize that reasoning is very important to the Israelite people. This section about rape is a teaching tool. It is to show the young men that if they want to rape, they are in danger of death or responsibilities received in a very disagreeable manner. Most guys are wise enough (hopefully) to do things the right way, and avoid evil. That's what the Law is for... to teach how to love God and to live in the way that pleases Him.” [source - A writer who writes under the pseudonym of “Christianlady”]
