Sequel # 8 to The Trinity, So Called The Central Doctrine of Christianity Is NOT As Billed
NTRODUCTION:
First, let’s define what the Trinity is:
The Trinity is said to be the central doctrine of the religions of Christendom, and according to the Athanasian Creed, this false doctrine consist of three divine individuals, the Father – Almighty God (YHWH), the Son – Jesus (Yeshua) Christ, and the Holy Ghost – the active force or power of Almighty God (YHWH). All are said to be eternal, each said to be almighty – none greater or less than the other, each said to be God – a ‘three-in-one-god,’ and yet together being but one God. Other statements of the dogma emphasize that these three “Persons” are not separate and distinct individuals but are three modes in which the divine essence exists. Thus some Trinitarians emphasize their belief that Jesus Christ is God, or that Jesus and the Holy Ghost are Yehwah. [[Not a Bible Teaching]].
Second, How did this false doctrine of the Trinity originate? Let’s look at some authoritative historical and reference sources to find out.
Source 1, an encyclopedia, <<< “Neither the word Trinity, nor the explicit doctrine as such, appears in the New Testament, nor did Jesus and his followers intend to contradict the Shema in the Old Testament: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord’ (Deut. 6:4). . . . The doctrine developed gradually over several centuries and through many controversies. . . . By the end of the 4th century . . . the doctrine of the Trinity took substantially the form it has maintained ever since.” [source - The New Encyclopædia Britannica, (1976), Micropædia, Vol. X, p. 126.]>>>.
Source 2, a Catholic encyclopedia, <<< “The formulation ‘one God in three Persons’ was not solidly established, certainly not fully assimilated into Christian life and its profession of faith, prior to the end of the 4th century. But it is precisely this formulation that has first claim to the title the Trinitarian dogma. Among the Apostolic Fathers, there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective.” [source - The New Catholic Encyclopedia states, (1967), Vol. XIV, p. 299]>>>.
Source 3, an encyclopedia, <<< “Christianity derived from Judaism and Judaism was strictly Unitarian [believing that God is one person]. The road which led from Jerusalem to Nicea was scarcely a straight one. Fourth century Trinitarianism did not reflect accurately early Christian teaching regarding the nature of God; it was, on the contrary, a deviation from this teaching.” [source - The Encyclopedia Americana, (1956), Vol. XXVII, p. 294L]>>>.
Source 4, a French Dictionary, <<< “The Platonic trinity, itself merely a rearrangement of older trinities dating back to earlier peoples, appears to be the rational philosophic trinity of attributes that gave birth to the three hypostases or divine persons taught by the Christian churches. . . . This Greek philosopher’s [Plato, fourth century B.C.E.] conception of the divine trinity . . . can be found in all the ancient [pagan] religions.” [source - Nouveau Dictionnaire Universel, (Paris, 1865-1870), edited by M. Lachâtre, Vol. 2, p. 1467]>>>.
Source 5, a Bible dictionary, <<< “The trinity of persons within the unity of nature is defined in terms of ‘person’ and ‘nature’ which are G[ree]k philosophical terms; actually the terms do not appear in the Bible. The trinitarian definitions arose as the result of long controversies in which these terms and others such as ‘essence’ and ‘substance’ were erroneously applied to God by some theologians.” [source - Dictionary of the Bible, by - John L. McKenzie, S.J., (New York, 1965), p. 899]>>>.
Third, Interestingly even Trinitarians, believers in the Trinity, acknowledge that neither the word ‘Trinity’ nor a statement of the ‘Trinitarian dogma’ is found in the Inspired Word of Almighty God (YHWH), the Bible. So the question is, are the concepts that are embodied in that dogma found in the Bible?
Let’s now consider if the Bible teaches that the ‘Holy Spirit’ is a person – this would be required if the ‘Trinity’ is other than a myth, a false teaching taught by those inspired of the Devil spoken of at 2 Peter 2:1, “But there arose false prophets also among the people, as among you also there shall be false teachers, who shall privily bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.” (American Standard Version; ASV).
WHO OR WHAT IS THE ‘HOLY SPIRIT’?
First, does the Bible teach that the ‘Holy Spirit’ is an spirit individual?
While some individual texts seem to give the impression that the ‘Holy Spirit’ (HS) [‘Holy Ghost’] has a personality, such as those speaking of the ‘Comforter,’ [Koine Greek, ‘pa·ra'kle·tos’], as bearing witness, speaks, and hears such as John 14:16-17 and 26, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever, 17 even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.” And “26 But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.” (ASV); and John 15:26, “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall bear witness of me:” (ASV); and John 16:13, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, these shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.” (ASV). However other scriptures clearly show that people were ‘filled’ with the HS, and that some were ‘baptized’ with it and/or ‘anointed’ with it, such as Luke 1:41, “And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit;” (ASV); and Matthew 3:11, “I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:’ (ASV), and Acts 10:38, “even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” (ASV).
In order to understand what the Inspired Word of Almighty God (YHWH), the Bible, as a whole really teaches, all of these scriptures must be considered. Now what is a reasonable conclusion? It would be that the first group of scriptures - John 14:16, 17, 26; 15:26; 16:13, are employing a figure of speech personifying Almighty God’s (YHWH’s) ‘holy spirit,’ his active force, as the Bible also personifies wisdom, sin, death, water, etc., such as Proverbs 1:20, “ Wisdom crieth aloud in the street; She uttereth her voice in the broad places; Genesis 4:7, “If thou doest well, shall it not be lifted up? and if thou doest not well, sin coucheth at the door; and unto thee shall be its desire; but do thou rule over it.” (ASV), Isaiah 25:8, “He hath swallowed up death for ever; and the Lord Jehovah will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the reproach of his people will he take away from off all the earth: for Jehovah hath spoken it.” (ASV), Revelation 22:17, “17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And he that heareth, let him say, Come. And he that is athirst, let him come: he that will, let him take the water of life freely.” (ASV), etc.
Now a little logic and common sense on the subject. The Inspired Word of Almighty God (YHWH), the Bible, tells us the personal name of the Father at Exodus 6:3 and elsewhere, let’s confirm this fact in a few Bibles:
(American Standard Version; ASV), “and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as God Almighty; but by my name Jehovah I was not known to them.”
(Authorized King James Bible; AV) , “And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
(Rotherham Bible of 1902; RB), “I appeared, therefore, unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as GOD Almighty,––although, by my name Yahweh, was I not made known to them;”
(1917 Jewish Publication Society Old Testament: JPS), “and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name Jehovah” {The Hebrew word (four Hebrew letters: HE, VAV, HE, YOD,) remained in the English text untranslated; the English word ‘Jehovah’ was substituted for this Hebrew word. The footnote for this Hebrew word is: "The ineffable name, read}
(Darby 1884 Version; Darby), “And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as the Almighty *God; but by my name Jehovah I was not made known to them.”
(English Revised Version; ERV), “and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH I was not known to them.”
(Young's Literal Translation; YLT), “and I appear unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as God Almighty; as to My name Jehovah, I have not been known to them;”
Also, the Inspired Word of Almighty God (YHWH), the Bible, tells us the personal name of the Son of Almighty God (YHWH), Jesus (Yeshua) Christ, for example, at Matthew 1:25,
(American Standard Version; ASV), “and knew her not till she had brought forth a son: and he called his name JESUS.”
(Authorized King James Bible; AV), “And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.”
(Rotherham Bible of 1902; RB), “and knew her not, until she had brought forth a son,––and he called his name Jesus.”
(Darby 1884 Version; Darby), “and knew her not until she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.”
(English Revised Version; ERV), “and knew her not till she had brought forth a son: and he called his name JESUS.”
(Young's Literal Translation; YLT), “and did not know her till she brought forth her son—the first-born, and he called his name Jesus.”
(Noyes 1869 Translation: N1869T), “and he knew her not till she had brought forth a son: and he called his name Jesus.”
But, the Inspired Word of Almighty God (YHWH), the Bible, nowhere gives a personal name for the ‘Holy Spirit’ (HS). Why is this? It is because the HS is NOT an individual, but the active force or power emanating from Almighty God (YHWH). This fact, is emphasized in Acts 7:55-56 where Stephen was given a vision of heaven and saw, “But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56 and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God.” (ASV), and he saw NO ‘Holy Spirit.’ This fact, that there is NO individual in heaven known as the ‘Holy Spirit’, and this point is also shown at Revelation 7:10, “and they cry with a great voice, saying, Salvation unto our God who sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb.” (ASV); and Revelation 22:1-3, “And he showed me a river of water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 in the midst of the street thereof. And on this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve manner of fruits, yielding its fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 And there shall be no curse any more: and the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be therein: and his servants shall serve him;” (ASV).
In fact, the New Catholic Encyclopedia (NCE) admits that, <<<” The majority of N[ew] T[estament] texts reveal God’s spirit as something, not someone; this is especially seen in the parallelism between the spirit and the power of God.” [source – NCE (1967, Vol. XIII, p. 575)]>>>; and <<<“The Apologists [Greek Christian writers of the second century] spoke too haltingly of the Spirit; with a measure of anticipation, one might say too impersonally.” [source – NCE (1967, Vol. XIV, p. 296)]>>>.
Now let’s look at some facts with respect the ‘Holy Spirit.”
<<<”1 Corinthians 12:11-12, “But all these worketh the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each one severally even as he will. 12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ.” (American Standard Version; ASV)
To fully understand this scripture we must look at two things: First, what immediately proceeded it, and Second, what is this Spirit or Holy Ghost as used in other Bibles. We will first consider the scripture that immediately proceeded it. But first we will consider another scripture that clearly show that the followers of Jesus (Yeshua) were given to him by his Father (YHWH) per John 17:5-8, "And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. 6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept my word. 7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me." (Authorized King James Bible; AV). Now that we see, that Jesus' (Yeshua's) Father (YHWH) gave him his followers we will examine the scripture immediately proceeding 1 Corinthians 12:11-12, namely, 1 Corinthians 12 4-10, "Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are diversities of ministrations, and the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of workings, but the same God, who worketh all things in all. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit to profit withal. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom; and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit: 9 to another faith, in the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healing, in the one Spirit; 10 and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues." (ASV). Thus we see this Spirit being given in different ways to different individuals, and as we know a being could NOT be given in different ways to different individuals; therefore, this Spirit must be something other than a being. But what?
Now let's consider just what this Spirit is. Now what is this Spirit or Holy Spirit that John the Baptist mentioned at John 1:32, ""And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. 33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the holy Ghost." (AV)? The Holy Spirit is only God's (YHWH's) active force and not even a spirit being or person. This is clearly shown at Pentecost where the Holy Spirit was poured out onto all there, Acts 2:1-4, "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." (AV). This entire scripture bespeaks of a force and not a being as you do not get filled with a being! And this fact is reaffirmed at Acts 4:31, ""And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spoke the word of God with boldness." (AV); And 2 Corinthians 1:21-22, "Now he which established us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; 22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts." (AV), surely a being would not be in our hearts as that is ludicrous, thus this scripture talks of God's (YHWH's) active force; This is clearly shown at Luke 11:13, "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" (AV). Once more, why? Why? Do many say they are coequal and coeternal when clearly they are not and the Holy Ghost is just God's (YHWH's) active force? Only to try to give some resemblance of reality to a myth as we shall later see. An interesting note on the Spirit is that the neuter Greek word for spirit (pneu'ma) is used, the neuter pronoun "it" is properly employed. This fact is conveniently over looked or hidden by most Trinitarian translators as admitted in the "New American Bible Catholic Bible," regarding John 14:17: "The Greek word for 'Spirit' is neuter, and while we use personal pronouns in English ('he,' 'his,' 'him'), most Greek MSS [manuscripts] employ 'it.'" So when the Bible uses masculine personal pronouns in connection with pa·ra'kle·tos at John 16:7, 8, it is conforming to rules of grammar, not expressing a doctrine. And in Ancient Hebrew the word here rendered Holy Ghost, Holy Spirit, or Spirit which is translated from 'ru'ach' meaning "breath; wind; spirit." In Latin, it is spiritus, and in Sanskrit, 'prana' which means both "breath" and "spirit"
So it is clear that the Spirit is not a being but is God's (YHWH's) active force which he gives to both his Son, Jesus (Yeshua) and to his followers that he gave to him. This is made even clearer at 1 Corinthians 12:13, "For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all made to drink of one Spirit. And Hebrews 2:4 clearly reveals it as from him, "God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders, and by manifold powers, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will." (ASV); And affirmed at 2 Peter 1:21, "For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit." (ASV). Interestingly many ancient manuscripts with respect part of 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, in part read as follows, "Vulgate, Syriac, and Coptic [all important ancient manuscripts] read, "(the Lord God of the) spirits (of the prophets)." The Lord God who with His Spirit inspired their spirits so as to be able to prophesy. There is but one Spirit, but individual prophets, according to the measure given them " Thus it is obvious that the Spirit or Holy Spirit is God's (YHWH's) active force or power which he 'pours' out to his Son, Jesus (Yeshua) and to the faithful followers as necessary to get his will accomplished.
APPENDIX:
FIRST, Some may have a little trouble understanding what is called the Biblical Law of Agencies. But let me use an analogy to assist you with respect understanding. On the building of a condominium or any other large building, a contractor may employ many workers to assist him as his workers or agents with respect task at hand, but the contractor is STILL the builder. The same holds true for the true God (YHWH) of Abraham. He employed his only begotten son, Jesus (Yeshua), the first of creation or beginning of creation per Revelation 3:14, "And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God:" (American Standard Bible; AV) as his assistant or master worker. Proverbs 8:22-31 makes it clear that Jesus (Yeshua) is the true God (YHWH) of Abraham's master worker, "Jehovah possessed me in the beginning of his way, Before his works of old. 23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, Before the earth was. 24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth, When there were no fountains abounding with water. 25 Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills was I brought forth; 26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, Nor the beginning of the dust of the world. 27 When he established the heavens, I was there: When he set a circle upon the face of the deep, 28 When he made firm the skies above, When the fountains of the deep became strong, 29 When he gave to the sea its bound, That the waters should not transgress his commandment, When he marked out the foundations of the earth; 30 Then I was by him, as a master workman; And I was daily his delight, Rejoicing always before him, 31 Rejoicing in his habitable earth; And my delight was with the sons of men." (ASV). So whereas an employee or worker or agent of a contractor becomes neither a co-contractor or co-builder even though he participated in the building process; neither does the fact that Jesus (Yeshua) was used as a master worker by the true God (YHWH) of Abraham in any way make him a co-creator.” [source – Commentary on 1 Corinthians 12:11-12, by Iris the Preacher 2002.]>>>.
IN fact, with respect to Almighty God (YHWH)one could say that a major aspect of his personality that comes through as the Spirit of God or ‘Holy Spirit,’ which is often referred to as simply the Ruach Ha-kodesh by the Jews. Let’s look at this aspect of Almighty God’s (YHWH’s) personality and power.
<<<" Ruach HaKodesh - Holy Spirit [[from a Jewish source]]
Tehillim 51:12 Create a pure heart for me, O G-d, and a steadfast spirit renew within me. 13 Cast me not away from Your Presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
The ruach ha-kodesh (holy spirit) is Divine inspiration or prophetic inspiration and is not the same as what is taught in Christianity as in the doctrine of the Trinity. No where in the Hebrew Scriptures is there any reference to a spirit divine in itself or 'Holy Ghost', as distinct from a spirit that comes from G-d to inspire human beings. For example, in Shemot 35:31, where it refers to Betzalel, the architect of the Mishkan, being filled with ruach Elokim...the meaning is that he was filled with a spirit which came from G-d to guide him in his task. This is the meaning in Rabbinic literature, where the term denotes a level of divine inspiration. The books of Tehillim and Mishlei were compiled under the ruach hakodesh, i.e., by a degree of inspiration, somewhat less than the degree of prophecy, although on occasion, the prophetic vision itself is also said to be by means of the ruach hakodesh.
Maimonides (Rambam) [Guide of the Perplexed, 2. 45) lists the ruach ha-kodesh as a degree of prophecy but understands it in a more or less rationalistic manner as a certain thing that descends upon an individual, 'so that he talks in wise sayings, in words of praise, in useful admonitory dicta, or concerning governmental or divine matters - and all this while he is awake and his senses function as usual'. With the passing of the last three prophets (Chaggai, Zechariah, Malachi) the ruach hakodesh is said to have departed from Yisrael (Tosefta, Sotah 13:2; Sanhedrin 11a) and subsequent revelations were given by a bat kol, a mysterious heavenly voice." And last, let’s us consider what type of force or power the ‘Holy Spirit’ is.
See Part Two of Sequel # 8 to The Trinity, So Called The Central Doctrine of Christianity Is NOT As Billed

WHO OR WHAT IS THE ‘HOLY SPIRIT’?

(Rotherham Bible of 1902; RB), “I appeared, therefore, unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as GOD Almighty,––although, by my name Yahweh, was I not made known to them;”
(1917 Jewish Publication Society Old Testament: JPS), “and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name Jehovah” {The Hebrew word (four Hebrew letters: HE, VAV, HE, YOD,) remained in the English text untranslated; the English word ‘Jehovah’ was substituted for this Hebrew word. The footnote for this Hebrew word is: "The ineffable name, read}
