Engineering Members of Islam are More Likely Than Most to Become Terrorist
INTRODUCTION:
A study conducted by Oxford University on terrorist individuals who have been mislead by religious leaders came up with an amazing finding; to wit, members of Islam who are engineers are more likely to be mislead than most other professions. Strange but true. Why? Those who disagree with this finding or reality are just fooling themselves as it is not what either the Bible or the Bible knockoff the Qur'an actually say, but how religious leaders be they priest and/or imams or muftis or what ever teach the people is the interpretation of what is written either in the Bible or the bible knockoff the Qur'an that matters and governs actions. It matters not what the Bible and/or the Bible knockoff really say. People go by what they are taught by their religious leaders. Take the genocide committed by the Roman Catholic Church at the direction of their supreme religious leader, the pope, what mattered was not that the Bible clearly said at Exodus 20:13, "Thou shalt not kill." (Authorized King James Bible; AV), but what their religious leaders told them. Therefore, it is the religion at fault, irregardless of what their particular holy book, be it the Bible or the Bible knockoff the Qur'an may say. Neither in so called Christianity or in Islam are most individuals actions really governed in any way by what their particular holy book really says, but they are governed by the interpretation of their religious leaders. Thus, knowing this reality, one would be either just plain stupid and/or dumb to even bother looking at a particular religion's holy book and expect the members would conform to it. Take the Rig Vede and find me for example a Hindu actually conforming to it instead of the interpretation given to it by his religious leaders, like looking for a needle in the haystack per K.S. Lal, India's greatest historian.
It is as Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Permanent good can never be the outcome of untruth and violence." Clearly he was taking a crack at the Hindu and Muslim religious leaders that were then promoting violence in his native India in his day and continue to do so until today. But we shall now see, it is not the illiterate uneducated members of Islam who are most being mislead by their religious leaders - sheiks, imams, muftis, ayatollahs, etc., but strangely engineers and other professionals that one would think would know better.
ENGINEERING'S TERRORISM LINK:
Engineers share a mind-set in the public image or stereotyping that makes it difficult for them to communicate well with the public, but this is not really the case. The main problem with most engineers is tunnel vision - the seeing everything in the narrow perspective of their profession. This causes them to readily fall victim to their religious leaders in many cases as shown by Sociologist Diego Gambetta and Steffen Hertog who according to an article in the DESIGN NEWS of 04/28/2008, page 24, have written a study that paints a controversial picture of the engineering mind-set. This mind-set can prove very dangerous sociologically speaking as shown in the Oxford University study that examines the link between engineers and violent Islamic extremism. Of course for most engineers, extremism would not be the first word that would pop into their mind when thinking about their colleagues who they see as calmly toiling at their workstations or sitting next to them in meetings.
However the Oxford University study, "Engineers of Jihad," which on 05/20/2008 was available at rbi.ims.ca/5709-524 , carefully examines the link between engineers and violent Islamic extremism.
As the basis for this study, Gambetta and Hertog dug up the educational background on as many of the 404 known terrorist as they could ultimately manage to identify. Of the 178 subjects who had engaged in higher education, Engineering topped the list of studies by a substantial margin. Seventy-eight, or 44 percent, of the 178 studied had been engineers. The second most popular course of studies had been Islamic studies.
Per DESIGN NEWS of 04/28/2008, page 27, <<<"Putting those engineering numbers in the context of the adult male population of the Middle East and North African countries they looked at, Gambetta and Hertog found "the share of radical Islamic engineers is no less than nine times greater than the share we could expect of the proneness of engineers to radicalize was the same as that of the male adult population.">>>.
<<<"At the end of the day, the authors found "graduates from subjects such as science, engineering and medicine are strongly over represented among Islamic movements in the Muslim world, ... We also find that engineers alone are strongly over-represented among graduates in violent groups in both realms. This is all the more puzzling, for engineers are virtually absent from left-wing violent extremists and only present rather than over-represented among right-wing extremists." [source - DESIGN NEWS of 04/28/2008, page 27]>>>.
Gambetta and Hertog find this strange, but offer a theory that engineers as a group radicalize more easily than people with other degrees, and that this has little to do with the obvious notion which is engineers have technical skills that terrorist organizations value. Instead, their theory is that it is due to an interaction between two forces which are the result from social difficulties engineers fact in Islamic countries which are lack of professional opportunities and economic prospects in Muslim cultures.
The put forth the hypothesis that a disproportionate share of engineers have habits of thought the predisposes them toward radicalization by their religious leaders such as Sunni Sheik Usama (wrongly said Osoma in western lands) bin Ladin and his ilk. One example given by Gambetta and Hertog <<<"is a tendency among engineers to believe in one solution or "monism." Another is a tendency to believe remedies to most problems would be simple if people were only rational - a belief known as "simplism."[source - source - DESIGN NEWS of 04/28/2008, page 28]>>>. This makes them easy targets for violence bent Muslim religious leaders who lust for violence, greed, and hate to use to further their own sick and evil agendas.
CONCLUSION:
Engineers need to stop following, like sheep, sick evil religious Islamic religious leaders and start thinking for themselves - to become skeptic pragmatic realist instead of narrow minded belief in a belief knows as 'simplism." They need to start distrusting their religious leaders and follow the principle set forth at Acts 17:10-11, "And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Beroea: who when they were come thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so." (American Standard Version; ASV). Also, the need to avoid becoming negative skeptics known as Pyrrhonist.
