List of Places In New Testament Where The Name Jehovah Should Be:
This list indicates what Hebrew Translations support "Jehovah" in
the Christian Scriptures. In each of these instances, which are
among 237 such, "Jehovah" is inserted into the main text of the
(New World Translation; NWT). I've also indicated when "Lord" or "God" is accompanied by the
definite article in the Greek Text.
Now it is interesting to note that the (Restoration Scriptures, True Name Edition; RSTNE) by Rabbi Moshe Yoseph Keniuchowsky and published by Your Arms to Yisrael Publishing also agrees.
It is interesting that
1 Supporting Translation
Acts 18:21 J17 The God
James 2:23 J17
Col 3:13 J23
2 Supporting Translations
Ac 13:44 J17,22 The God
Rm 14:4 J18,23 The Lord
Gal 3:6 J7,8 The God
Eph 5:17 J7,8 The Lord
Eph 6:7 J7,8 The Lord
Eph 6:8 J22,24
Col 1:10 J7,8 The Lord
Col 3:22 J18,22 The Lord
James 3:9 J18,23 The Lord
3 Supporting Translations
Acts 2:47 J7,8,10 The Lord
Acts 4:29 J7,8,10
Acts 8:22 J18,22,23 The Lord
Acts 10:33 J17,18,23 The Lord
Acts 12:17 J7,8,10 The Lord
Acts 13:12 J7,8,10
Acts 15:40 J17,18,22
Acts 16:15 J7,8,10 The Lord
1 Cor. 10:9 J18,22,23 The Lord
1 Cor. 11:32 J13,16,18 The Lord
2 Cor. 8:21 J7,8,24
2 Thess. 2:2 J18,22,23 The Lord
2 Thess. 2:13 J13,16,24
2 Peter 3:12 J7,8,17 The God
James 1:12 is most interesting because neither "God" nor "Lord"
appear in the Greek Text but the (NWT) still used Jehovah. The Hebrew
Translation support is J7,8,13,16,17
_________________
The (NWT) also has "Jehovah" 72 times, not in the main text, but in
the footnotes.
I will indicate instances where there are 4 or more Hebrew
Translations that support the rendering "Jehovah" but the (NWT) still
relegates "Jehovah" to footnotes.
Mark 11:10 J7,8,10-14,16,17
Luke 2:11 J5-8,10
Luke 2:38 J5,7-17
Luke 4:4 J7,8,10,13-15,17
Luke 4:18 J7,8,10,13-15
Acts 7:30 J7,8,10-17
Acts 7:37 J7,8,10-17
Acts 13:50 J7,8,10,18
Acts 22:17 J13,14,17,18,22
Acts 26:7 J13-17
Romans 11:8 J7,8,10,13-15,20
1 Cor. 10:28 J7,8,10,11,13,14,16,17
Phil 4:1 J7,8,13,14,16,24
Phil 4:4 J7,8,13,14,16,24
Phil 4:10 J7,8,13,14,16,25
1 Thessalonians 4:16 J7,8,13,14
1 Thessalonians 4:17 J7,8,13,14,24
1 Thessalonians 5:27 J7,8,13,14,16
1 Timothy 5:8 J13,14,18
2 Timothy 1:16 J7,8,13,14,16
2 Timothy 1:18 J7,8,13,14,16
2 Timothy 2:14 J7,8,13,14,16
2 Timothy 2:22 J7,8,17,22
Heb 9:20 J3,7,8,20
Heb 10:30 J3,7,8,11-16,24
1 Peter 3:15 J7,8,11-14,16,17,24
1 Peter 5:3 J13,14,17,18
Rev 16:5 J7,8,13,14,16
Rev 19:1 J7,8,13,14,16,17
So 29 verses have more support with the Hebrew Translations than the
27 I cited at the top and yet these 29 did not make it into the main
text of the (NWT) Christian Greek Scriptures.
Some sticky ones
Romans 10:17 "the word about Christ" J7,8,10 "word of Jehovah"
Colossians 3:15 "of the Christ" J7,8 "of Jehovah"
1 Thessalonians 4:16 "the Lord" J7,8,13,14 "Jehovah"
1 Thessalonians 4:17 "the Lord" J7,8,13,14,24 "Jehovah"
2 Timothy 2:18 "May the Lord grant him to find mercy from Jehovah in
that day." J7,8,13,14,16-18, 22-24 support "Jehovah" in the b part
of the verse. J7,8,13,14,16 supports "Jehovah in the a part of the
verse. So 5 Hebrew translations (J7,8,13,14,16) say `May Jehovah
grant him to find mercy from Jehovah'
1 Peter 3:15 "but sanctify the Christ as Lord in your hearts"
J7,8,11-14,16,17,24 "as Jehovah in your hearts"
Another thought
In 1 Corinthians 7:17 the (NWT) adds "Jehovah" even though there is no
Hebrew translation support, and then a few words latter *does not*
add "Jehovah" even though there is support it 3 translations.
RSV "Only, let every one lead the life which the Lord has assigned
to him, and in which God has called him." (NWT) "Only, as Jehovah
has given each one a portion, let each one so walk as God has called
him"
BTW, I was careful to type everything accurately but this paper has
not been double-checked.
I wish the (NWT) committee gave a more though explanation of why they
choose to either insert "Jehovah" or leave it out in each particular
verse, especially when Hebrew Translations supported its inclusion.
It would be so interesting to read! Still, the honesty of the (NWT)
is amazing and refreshing. Truly "this thing has not been done in a
corner" - Ac 26:26 All of the information about which Hebrew
Translations included "Jehovah" is laid out "Upon the shining, bare
surface of a crag" for all with the reference Bible to see. -
Ezekiel 24:7
