Congressman Peter King’s Realism and Rejection of Political Correctness Is Starting To Highlight A Real and Present Problem With Respect To Islam.
Congressman Peter King is being criticized by many because he is trying to highlight a real and present problem with respect to Islam instead of hiding behind ‘political correctness’ as most do. A problem if real and present needs to be highlighted and dealt with even if it defies what is commonly called ‘political correctness’ as do all dangers, and it appears that only Congressman Peter King has the fortitude to do what is right – expose the problem. Yes, Islam is a real and present threat to our way of life and individual freedom.
Of course, not all members of Islam pose a threat, but some members of this religion pose a great threat. Take for example the Muslim religious leader Sheik Osama bin Ladin and others of his ilk. They have already taken the lives of over 5,000 Americans – this includes the lives of over 3,000 on 9/11/2001, but also the lives of many service men and women in Iraq, Afghanistan, Texas, and elsewhere.
The reality is that the American public and politicians do NOT understand the nature of Islam, and where many of its members loyalty lie. For example, “Mark Durie is a theologian, human rights activist, and pastor of an Anglican church in Australia. He has held visiting appointments at the University of Leiden, MIT, UCLA, and Stanford. During his years in Indonesia, he observed a society in which a Muslim majority tried to enforce Islamic law on its sizable Christian minority, leading to his acclaimed 2010 book, The Third Choice, which examines the status of non-Muslims under Islamic rule. On January 20 he spoke to the Middle East Forum in New York on the topic of loyalty.
By understanding how Muslim scholars address the question of loyalty, Westerners may better understand why their nations often have problems assimilating their Muslim populations, asserts Mr. Durie.
The question of loyalty has had tragic implications: Mr. Durie cited the case of Major Nidal Hasan as an expression of isolation and tension commonly experienced between Muslim minorities residing in Western communities. He states that whereas Western Judeo-Christian ethics separated religion and state centuries ago, Islam intertwines religion and state into an inseparable whole. In fact, scholars of Islamic jurisprudence have never concretely settled the lawfulness of a Muslim living in the West, or Dar al-Harb—the "House of War." It finds "more than 20 terrorist plots by non-Muslims in the United States in 2010," compared to 20 Muslim-American terror suspects. Yet the report actually bolsters King's thesis that radical Islam requires special scrutiny. With Muslims comprising around one percent of the population, roughly equal numbers of Muslims and non-Muslims engaging in terrorism would mean that the problem is a hundred times more prevalent among U.S. Muslims. Hence, terrorism can be curtailed most efficiently by focusing on Muslim radicalization, just as King posits.
Claim: Radical beliefs are rare in the U.S. Muslim population. A 2007 Pew poll has been cited as proof that American Muslims exhibit little radicalism, but its results are far from reassuring. Five percent of U.S. Muslims indicated a favorable view of al-Qaeda; another 27% did not know or refused to answer. Eight percent stated that suicide bombings can be justified at least "sometimes." Even the one percent who said that such jihadist attacks "often" are justified amounts to tens of thousands of radicals presenting a grave challenge to homeland security. King is right for investigating where they pick up these ideas. REALITY, “Some foes of jihad have taken pessimistic views of King's approach, but his hearing already has borne fruit. Massive resistance to probing Muslim extremism has exposed Islamist organizations' true mindset and "pathetic record on combating Islamic radicalism." As reformist Muslim Asra Nomani notes, "Our worst enemies in America … are Muslim interest groups and leaders, who do more to deny the problem than defeat it." REALITY, If a religion fails to clean house of evil and wicked men when they are discovered, and especially of evil and wicked men/women taking the lead in a congregation, and/or congregations such as Pastors, Ministers, Sheiks, Imams, Bishops, Cardinals, Etc., then the religion is responsible for their wrong doing. Some religions such as Islam have NEVER cleaned house of evil and wicked individuals when they are discovered and that religion has been violent since its beginning, and many of its members lust for violence in such acts as beheading of others, suicide bombers, makers of IEDs, etc. do to the teachings of their groups religious leaders. One notable example, as previously noted, of an evil and wicked individual Islam well knows of who is a leader of a large group of members of Islam is Sheik Osama bin Ladin. Of course, Islam, is NOT the only religion that fails to take effective action against evil and wicked individuals and leaders of groups among them, another is the Catholic and Anglican churches that for many years just moved pedophiles to a new congregation when they were uncovered as the world's news media has so well identified. Groups seeking to keep themselves clean of evil and wicked individuals that sneak into their group take the appropriate action; to wit, they throw them out. But at least these latter groups do NOT lust for violence as do many in Islam.
